Scholarships

Fueling academic excellence is a large part of the Gator Club's® mission of giving back to the community.

The Gator Club Board of Directors voted in early 2007 to begin supporting the Florida Opportunity Scholarship at the University of Florida. These scholarships ensure those admitted to Florida will become members of the Gator Nation regardless of their financial ability. Recipients come from families with annual incomes of less than $40,000. For them, paying for books and fees, meals and housing, transportation and miscellaneous expenses is too often overwhelming.

The goal is to bring the dream of a University of Florida education within reach of Florida residents whose parents never graduated from college. As thousands of UF graduates have learned, a UF education is the start of lifelong success.

The club's contribution will be matched dollar for dollar by the state of Florida's First Generation Matching Grant Program. Thanks to you, the club has contributed a total of $20,000 as of 2010.

ENDOWED ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP

In 2006, the Gator Club board voted to begin an Academic Scholarship Endowment. In May 2011 the club made its final payment to complete this endowment. With your help through the club's various fund raising events, the club has donated $100,000 to academic pursuits. This fully endowed scholarship is now eligible for a 50 percent match through the state's Florida Major Gifts Trust Fund.

ENDOWED ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS

After the 1996 Football National Championship, the club endowed a $50,000 scholarship as enduring recognition of the programs first-ever national championship.

In 2005, we marked the success of the Gator baseball team's efforts in the College World Series. Thus, the Pat McMahon-Jacksonville Gator Club Baseball Endowment was started. Committing to $50,000 over 5 years, this scholarship was paid off early (in October 2008), thanks to the support of club members and friends.
